It is with great sadness that I inform you all that our Rat dog has died. We hunted Rat the other night and he got into poison that someone had put out. We don't know what it was but it was quick and deadly. We made the decision to hunt old Rat because that is what he was bred and born to do, it wasn't right to leave him in the pen while we hunted other dogs, it was breaking his old heart. Rat was still as good a dog as he has ever been and his last night in the woods still produced 3 coons on 3 separate tracks and trees, one of the tracks being long and difficult and the coon being 27 pounds. We have been fortunate to have an outstanding line of dogs over all these years, Rat was one of those, one of the best. We are still fortunate because Rat's legacy will go on and on in some of the outstanding young dogs he has reproduced, many of them right here in our yard. Rat is gone but never, ever forgotten in our hearts. His legacy will live on for a long time as one of the best reproducers in our breed. If you came to look at a pup out of old Rat or if you were looking to breed your good female to him, please consider our Rabble Rouser dog. He has the best of old Rat in his veins and has some abilities that even go beyond what Rat had to offer. We want people to know what our line of hounds has to offer and we are sure that Rabble will carry on the tradition that Sam, Dixie, Rocky and Rat have established. RAT WAS A LONG LEGGED, DARK RED HOUND THAT REPRODUCED LIKE A STUD DOG SHOULD! (If you had a pup reserved out of Rat, please contact me) Rat ran a track with a bawl mouth and used his mouth right, not too much and not to little. He located the tree with a true dying bawl and then came treed with a hard chop. When he located and treed you could load the gun or get the camera out because he would have the meat. Rat didn't have a mean bone in his body and would let any pup get on a tree or have the coon when it was on the ground. Rat didn't have many pups on the ground and it's a real shame that folks didn't bring their good females to him to get a shot of his blood in their programs. Rat has produced several Nite Champions and a lot of Grand Champions and Champions out of just over 100 pups and is considered one of the top reproducing Redbone hounds of this day and age. |
